County Cricket
After beating Boston Grammar school on Thursday last week the U15s travelled to Boston CC for their chance to be crowned county champions. The team were asked to bat first and unfortunately lost regular wickets which disrupted any momentum. Cameron Duff batted well for his 24 runs with the team eventually being bowled out for a below par score of 80.
Cameron opened the bowling with fellow captain Charlie Storr and did put the Kings Grantham openers under early pressure. The team fielded well with excellent catches from both Myles Lane and Hayden Bushnell. However, the Kings batting line up were well equipped to deal with a relatively low total and chased the score with three overs to spare.

Despite this loss the team can be proud of the progress which they have made this season. They have represented the school superbly and have helped put cricket at QEGS into the county spotlight.

U13 Cricket Heroics

N Stone - 25/06/2024 - Notice

U13 Cricket Heroics
On Monday morning the U13 Cricket team travelled to Boston CC to play Caistor Grammar school in the north Lincolnshire league final with the winner progressing through to next week’s county final. Bowling first the QEGS team got off to a steady start with Archie Murray and Rowan Smith opening the bowling. Archie completed four tidy overs conceding 28 runs. In the middle overs the team started to collect wickets at regular intervals, bowlers Sam Wells (1), Will Edgar (1), Nav Sanganithy (1) and Rowan (3) (second spell) all chipping in. Caistor finished with a respectable total of 123 from their 20 overs. In reply QEGS lost early wickets despite scoring at the required run rate. Batting at number 6 Henry Boston joined Rowan at the crease and the pair steadied the ship. Rowan eventually was required to retire not out for 35 runs from 24 balls. Henry continued to bat well until the remainder of the team were bowled out meaning Rowan was allowed back into bat. With three overs remaining they needed to score 28 runs to win knowing that neither could afford to get out or the game would be over. A very difficult task against a quality team. The pair ran between the wickets superbly in blistering heat steadily reducing the required rate. In the final over Rowan and Henry needed 12 runs to win which eventually came down to 4 runs from 2 balls. Rowan struck a beautiful cover drive sparking pandemonium on the side-lines from his teammates. Rowan finished on 54 not out from 34 balls and his partner Henry finished with 20 runs from 44 balls. A superb partnership. Rowan’s performance will be remembered as heroic and rightly so, but without Henry’s determination and resilience this win would not have been possible. Well done to the whole team on what is a proud moment for the PE department and the school. The team are now North Lincolnshire champions and have the chance to be crowned county champions next week.
